To coincide with the 30th Anniversary, Universal Music are releasing Vine Street Stories (1995) on vinyl for the first time, following on from the vinyl release this month of Greg Johnson’s Sea Breeze Motel (2000) double album.

The Vine Street Stories album is home to many of Johnson’s most enduring radio hits and live favourites, including Don’t Wait Another Day, You Stay Out Of Your Life, If I Swagger, Suddenly Cold, Come On, Let The Sun Beat Down, and Pleasure and Overdose.

The album was produced by Nigel Stone and largely recorded at Johnson’s long-time residence throughout the 1990s in Vine Street, St Mary’s Bay – a home in which he penned many of his most renowned songs, and hosted legendary parties which are still hazily talked about by the Auckland music scene today.

Says Johnson: “Digging deep in to the songs off VineStreet Stories is going to be a lot of fun, and it reminds me of those great years working hard and playing harder, before guitarist Ted Brown and I spread our wings with the move to the US.

“So many memories around the recording this album, including having to quickly brace the lounge floorboards from underneath, as they buckled under the weight of the grand piano rolled in to record If I Swagger.”

“This tour is a celebration, and alongside Vine Street Stories material we’ll throw in some other fan favourites as well. I can’t wait to see everyone again”.

Joining Greg on stage is his longtime bandmates; guitarist Ben King, drummer Wayne Bell, bassist Mark Hughes, and guest keyboardist Lisa Crawley returning from California.

Vine Street Stories is album number three of the 13 studio albums Johnson has released; a rich catalogue of much-loved by fans – including the critically-acclaimed recent releases, Tilt You Interior (2021) and Thunder In Fall (2024).
